Mori Hamada foreign lawyers make equal partners in rebranding https://lnkd.in/g7eY2-P8 Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, which has recently announced the launch of a foreign law joint enterprise, confirmed with Asia Business Law Journal that there were already foreign law attorneys who had joined the firm as equal partners. The launch of a foreign law joint enterprise model is part of the firm’s rebranding exercise, involving changes including a logo update to “Mori Hamada” as well as its website. Mori Hamada, which was founded in 1949 and was one of Japan’s largest law firms, currently had 170 foreign law attorneys and 588 Japan-admitted lawyers, the firm said. Of the 170 foreign law attorneys, 12 are registered as foreign lawyers in Japan, according to data from the Japan Federation of Bar Associations as of 7 January 2025. A liquidation in the British Virgin Islands can be either: (1) an insolvent liquidation and therefore governed by the Insolvency Act 2003 (as amended); or (2) a solvent liquidation and therefore governed by the BVI Business Companies Act (as amended) (Companies Act). The Companies Act was amended by the BVI Business Companies (Amendment) Act 2022 and BVI Business Companies (Amendment) Regulations 2022 (the Amendments). Mofo Singapore deepens M&A bench with ex-partner’s return https://lnkd.in/gkrVQidn Morrison Foerster (Mofo) has strengthened the firm’s private equity and M&A capabilities in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Japan with the addition of Scott Jalowayski to its corporate group in Singapore as a partner. Tabitha Saw of Morrison Foerster, told Asia Business Law Journal that Jalowayski would focus on expanding into strategic sectors for the firm, such as energy transition, renewables, technology and digital infrastructure. Having started his legal career at Kelley Drye & Warren in New York in 1998, Jalowayski joined Mofo in 2000 and spent eight years with the firm, during which he made partner in 2008. CMS has strengthened its corporate capabilities in Asia with the addition of Hong Kong-based partner Steven Tran, an expert in M&A and private equity. “Steven will have a prominent role in undertaking M&A and private equity transactions across the Asia region and will also be working with the corporate team in Singapore, headed by Toby Grainger,” Caryn Miller of CMS, told Asia Business Law Journal. Tran previously worked at Morrison Foerster. He also worked at Mayer Brown, Hogan Lovells and Kirkland & Ellis and is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales, and Australia. Tran’s appointment follows the recent hiring of Paul Moloney and Helen Wang in the firm’s funds and indirect real estate team in Hong Kong.
